Theaters and malls in cities like Coimbatore wore a sad, deserted look on Monday following closure by CM's Sunday closure order. But with positive coronavirus cases increasing across India, CM has yesterday March 16 announced the shut down of mass gathering places in Tamil Nadu until March 31. Effective from today, March 17, all schools, colleges, malls, theaters all over Tamil Nadu will remain shut. Even the TASMAC bars will be closed.
The board exams will be conducted as scheduled in the respective exam centers. The state health minister Dr. Vijayabaskar continuously visits hospitals, airports, and port to supervise the coronavirus checking and other arrangements. Also, he never forgets to inform the public through his twitter handle about the measures taken by the Tamil Nadu government to tackle coronavirus.
Yesterday was another black day for the world markets due to coronavirus. With reports pouring in of increased coronavirus cases, US markets fell the worst of more than 12%, which happened only thirty years back in 1987. In India, another day of blood bath with Sensex losing 2700 points wiping out 24% of the investor wealth in the last two weeks.
Considering all these global and national developments, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi Palaniswami has ordered yesterday of a total shut down until March 31. He also said that quarantine facilities would be set up in all the airports in Tamil Nadu.
After a review meeting, CM ordered shutting down of Theaters, Malls, Educational institutions, Swimming pools including those in private apartments, Amusement parks, Gyms, Zoos, Museums, and Marriage halls
As of now, the coronavirus cases affected in India is 124 with Maharashtra having 39 infected cases and Kerala with 24. Though there is only one specific infected case reported in Tamil Nadu, there are many reported doubtful cases of infection from Trichy and other places that increases the fear of spread. Now the order of the CM to shut down Tamil Nadu is a welcome step not to let the novel virus spread in Tamil Nadu and take precious lives.
