Cauvery Delta is a Protected Zone from now-Tamilnadu CM K.Palaniswamy.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has announced that the Government of Tamil Nadu will not come up with any program that will affect the livelihood of the farmers.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has declared the Cauvery Delta Districts as a protected agricultural zone. The Chief Minister stated that this Tamilnadu Government would not consent the hydrocarbon projects in those areas while attending the inauguration function Integrated Livestock Park in Thalaivasal of Salem District.
Speaking on occasion, the Chief Minister said that "Delta districts including Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai Cuddalore, Karur, and Trichy districts will be transformed into protected areas including Ariyalur, Pudukkottai and Cuddalore districts. The decision made concerning the farmers' distresses. We cannot allow methane extraction in the Cauvery Delta. The Government of Tamil Nadu will not come up with any program that will affect the livelihood of the farmers".
Edappadi also stated that the Farmers in the delta region have been protesting for nearly two years against the Vedanta Limited & Oil and Natural Gas Limited, who is in the execution process of proposed hydrocarbon projects in the rice bowl of India.
As part of the Hydrocarbon project, Vedanta Limited was ready to drill nearly 230 wells in the Puducherry, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Karaikal, and Villupuram district for the total sum of approximately 18,000 crores.
It is the DMK government that has permitted to take hydrocarbon. The deal was put in the presence of Stalin.
