Today most of the people have been addicted to tea, coffee and other non-nutritional beverages that are marketed in TV and other channels. We had completely forgotten and avoided the healthy traditional drinks of our ancestors. Those include Ragi Kanji and Kozh, Ginger tea, buttermilk, Nannari juice, panakam and Neera.
Buttermilk: It is one of the healthiest drinks that help to cool the body, sorts out digestive problems and cleansing of stomach. This fermented milk is a good source of phosphorous, potassium, vitamin B12, calcium, and riboflavin. It is prepared by removing fats from the curd or yogurts. It can be served by adding ginger, coriander and curry leaves.
Panakam: It is a sweet drink that is prepared by palm sugar or palm candy along with cardamom, tulsi, ginger, lemon and black pepper. It is used as body coolant and it is rich in iron and magnesium. It highly reduces constipation problems and cleanses the body.
Ragi Kanji and Kozh: These are made using our traditional cereals like Ragi, kambu, varagu, cholam, thinai and others. Ragi and kambu separately can also be made. Adding onion and green chilly makes the wonder flavour of drink. It has all the nutrition of those grains.
Neera: Neera drink is extracted from coconut or palm trees. It has rich minerals, vitamins and amino acids. It is collected before sunrise and fermented. It is natural and non-alcoholic beverage that gives several benefits to our body.
Nannari Sarbadh: It is made from the Nannari root which has the wonderful benefits treating stomach disorders, remedy for urinary infection, blood purifier, and natural body coolant. The drink is prepared adding jaggery and lemon.
Dry Ginger Tea: It is made from dry ginger without adding milk that helps in boost immunity, digestion, reduce nausea and help fight the flu and common cold. It is prepared with hot water, dry and powdered ginger. Ginger powder has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, such as gingerol, beta-carotene, capsaicin, and curcumin.
